Would prime Karpov have beaten Kasparov?

Karpov loved eating greasy prawns too.

Kasparov threw a bunch of games to give Karpov a 5-0 lead against him. Kasparov wanted to "do a Fischer" on Karpov by then beating him 6-0.

Anyway to cut a long story short, the bouncers had to cut in to stop the annihilation. Karpov couldn't beat Kasparov from 5-0 up. Nuff said.

Most top chess players will say Kasparov, Karpov, or Carlsen.

only karpov is in the conversation, others used computers and tainted their greatness.  like taking steroids in sports!  we are in the chess steroids era, cannot be compared with others

Both GM in their prime, Kasparov v Karpov. Kasparov would win imo.

I'm not talking about Kasparov in his prime. I mean prime Karpov vs 1985 Kasparov.

a prime Karpov didn't turn up too often, he was a bit of a runt and greatly assisted by the lack of chess talent in the 70s and 80s, when everyone got bored after Fischer went into the Bermuda Triangle.

Please don't be disrespectful. Fischer ran to the Bermuda Triangle as you say, to hide from Karpov. Karpov would have gutted, fried, and ate Fischer for dinner. But the little Fishy knew better and swam away from the bait.

General-TsoTso

he ran into the Bermuda Triangle to avoid being charged for Karpov's massacre! pre-putin russians were already infiltrating FIDE to stop the 6-0 maulings! they had bent solicitors!

1975 Karpov would easily beat the 1985 Kasparov. Would not have been close.

"A Chess talent so revolutionary, that even Bobby Fischer feared him. Bobby forfeited his title in 1975 instead of contesting the great Karpov in order to avoid complete humiliation.

But that was then, fast forward to 1985, Karpov was a different man. 34 years old, an ancient by chess standards..."

Do you make up this nonsense as you're typing or do you actually put any thought into it beforehand?

Fischer stopped playing in 1972, not 1975, and had no fear of Karpov.

34 is NOT "ancient by chess standards."  Fischer was 29 when he won the championship in 1972. Spassky was 32 when he won it in 1969.  Tigran Petrosian was 34 when he won it in 1963 and 37 when he successfully defended it in 1966.  In 1978, 47 year-old Korchnoi was tied 5 wins to 5 wins with Karpov before losing the 6th game and the title to a 27 year-old in the 32nd game of the match.

As far as I'm concerned, Karpov not yet in his prime crushed Kasparov 6-0.

You guys don't understand the power of Karpov.

Fischer told Kasparov to give Karpov the 5-0 lead, then said he would teach him some moves so he could win 6-5. when the fideboys found out, they busted the match.

Thank you for actually addressing the thread in its completeness, and responding accordingly. Also, I agree.
