I am new and I noticed that a few people after losing a piece like a queen/rook tend to quit. Why are they rage-quit. Do they know that they can come back?
I think it’s because they blunder and they get mad then end up quitting. Like, maybe it was something obvious and they get mad at themselves for not seeing it…or maybe that really did lose them the game and they quit.
Depends on the level of the game. Against 600-strength players you should keep playing. At that level, the game is usually won by the person who makes the next-to-last blunder.
If the opponent is rated over 2000, though, you might as well resign once you're a piece down.

Yeh well it depends entirely on the level of competition you are playing against, as well as the time format you are playing. If I lose even a pawn at my level without any counterplay I usually will end up losing; however, sub 2000 I guess if you continue playing their is always a chance they blunder.
Can we define the word quit? Do you mean that they resign from the game or that they abandon and just leave the game? If they resign they might just see no way they can come back. If they abandon then that I cannot understand.
Rage quit means you leave a game on purpose or abandon the game straight up cuz they think there gonna lose when they blunder something like a queen or a rook but what they dont know is they can still win if the opponent blunders also that is if they dont they may be good but if there rated 100 and play Like very good like Gothamchess somehow it may be time to report em lol

I have just done this, but it wasn't rage, it was shame that I lost my queen in such a terrible blunder on my part. The whole plan fell apart with the loss of the queen as lynch pin, and I thought it best to focus on the second game I'm playing with this opponent.

I think it's because they rage, then quit
I've seen people rage in OTB games-----pieces swept from the board, board thrown on the floor, rager stomping out...it's not just online .
To me it's just a game; an exercise in cerebral calisthenics... Chess is just one of my hobbies-----bur for many out there, chess is their ONLY hobby; a way of life for some . So whenever they blunder a piece, especially a major piece, it's as if a wound has been inflicted upon them, and they react as if I actual pain, hence the "rage-quit".
I rage quit often, but I resign first. I am not a very good player so I only play bots. When I play humans, I rarely get past the 7th or 8th before resigning
