what is your chess personality?

I'm a barbarian; or, in my case, a birdbarian...

ChessOath

Professional

...they don’t rely on vague, intuitive judgments - for the Professional, chess is an exact, calculated science.

The only slider I had that was completely flat out to one side was intuitive over calculating. Well done random internet quiz. Be more wrong.

It seems that what it meant to say was Technician (Kramnik).

KholmovDM

Mastermind (Alekhin)

Masterminds seek to master both their own emotions and to impose their reality on the chessboard. A Mastermind always seeks the right move, and believes that attacking is the right way. Typically choosing sharp openings, Masterminds win with fantastically deep calculations, producing combinations which are deeply hidden in correctly built-up positions. Masterminds thrive in complicated positions, where their accurate calculating ability and iron nerves give them the advantage.

I got Surgeon.

mariosuperlative

I got barbarian. Not all that accurate.

I read the description and it didn't look quite right because I am quite emotional during games (i.e. I am often nervous when playing strong opponents and often rely on how a position makes me feel rather than calculating it all out). So I took it again and this time the result was Magician.

Mikhail Tal "The Magician"... I couldn't be more pleased! One of my greatest chess "heroes". Thanks, that was neat.

I used to think that there is a "national" influence on "chess personality". I seemed to think that players from Canada, India, Iraq and England have some similarities (that might be based on the best players from their countries. That they at least try to emulate the style of their national champions). It may be a prejudice, but I found it useful in knowing what to expect from and unknown opponent, and was frequently correct. The Canadians usually went for the schoolboy mate. Indians (tacticians mainly) always wound up taking one of my rooks with their knight, but losing their queen (or hiding her in a useless corner). English players are polite in their openings, but very calculating in the middle game... the most difficult for "a magician" like me!

Well, I'm a Capricorn. So mostly a brilliant overachiever in chess. All other departments, flat out stinker.

This may have something in it. I am a Technician, which the other two English players (mapearson1990 and ChessOath) claim to be. On the other hand, RocknRollWoman, a Scot, and mariosuperlative, a Welshman, are rather unsurprisingly barbarians; and the Irishman advancededitingtool1 is an assassin.

Merely the truth.

LM_player
I'm a "mastermind".
