What are adaptive bots?

I thought adaptive bots would get stronger the more you play them. However, the Jimmy bot which is shown at 600 has played 600 level moves in three games. So, is it something where the bot won't play higher than the rating shown? Meaning, if you switched to a 1000 bot, then you would then play a bot that doesn't play higher than 1000, and if the human player is 800 for example that 1000 bot will adapt and not play 850-1000?

The adaptive bots don't change between games but within a single game based on how well the player is doing.

Basically, the higher the eval, the better the not plays and the lower it will adjust strength downward.

The Jimmy bot though didn't play good moves. It didn't take the knight after move 22. Ne4. It doesn't seem to be adapting.

adaptive bots will play better when youre winning and will play worse when youre losing
