Weird Conversations

What's the weirdest conversation you've had whilst playing a game on this site.

I once had a game against, somebody who's details indicated they were a young girl. After a couple of moves, they started talking about boyfriends and how they were 'free'.

The way the conversation went, I'm certain they weren't the person the details indicated they were.

Anybody had a simular experience?

this was more arrogant and stupid than weird:

i played against a person who was continuously saying me to resign, to give up, since the first move i did. he run out of time because of the chatting..

-MICKEY-

Yes, I did...exactly like that.

I'll leave you a message, Doctor asking you the same person did this to each of us (I don't want to make the person look bad in a forum)

Got your message, it wasn't that person unless they created a new account.

It was a few months ago when I played them.

Another kind of weird conversation: when there is NO conversation, t.i. they don't even answer your hello, but they want a rematch if they lose..

Viau_A

many of my conversations end up weird...its fun.

normajeanyates

My games here, opps say hello (or nothing at all), ditto for me, then the game proceeds in silence.

I prefer it this way, and somehow the opps I get prefer it this way.

For me to be able to say such a thing I would have to change "many" to "never."

joseph12

once i said hello the guy turn off chat, then as he started losing he sent me an email asking for a draw because "my eyes have fallen sick". since he had over 24hrs left to move i almost declined it, but i accepted because i had no proof that he was lying. does that count as weird?

UrWorstKnightMare

Well, I don't initiate conversation here because I don't want to disturb my opponent but I welcome it if they initiate it. I can't say I've ever had a weird one as you've described before.

BaronDerKilt

My wierdest has to be another supposed young girl who sports an 1800+ Live Chess rating and curses everytime I score even a draw on her, like unto a drunk sailor from the wrong side of the tracks who just got a Dear John letter that ends with "ps, I wrecked your 63 Split Window Coupe Vette, while dating your best friend, and gave the wire knock-offs to Salvation Army".  But if that is what a half-point provokes, I better make sure i don't win and have her go Lizzy Borden on us, eh?!  :)

Now she just curses without me saying anything. But actually I thought the first game conversation was not so bad. Something like this:

(Me) Hi ! (her): Idiot, don't you know my name? Is my name HELLO? (me): If You don't know, how would I ?  (her): many Curses follow . . .

A friend of mine tells me that 90% of Chess playing females online are really Not. Then again, he told me my wife was really a 6'4" balding bearded gay truck driver, after we met on a Chess site ... ( well something like that anyway, and she wasn't! :) Should I believe the rest then? I think he might be right about that one above tho ...  }8-D

a PS to Joseph ... I can relate to That. OFTEN I look at one of my positions and it REALLY makes "My eyes sick"! Not to mention my stomach. But then when it finally reaches from the Eyes to my Stomach being sick, I usually Resign. (This is one surefire way to know when to Resign, btw :)

john_castillo

since im new, I never had one.

For courtesy's sake saying "Hello" or "Hi..." would be just fine. But there's nothing wrong to talk about the weather or about yourself. If your oponent keeps quite, after that brief greeting, the best thing to do is to shut up.

RedSoxpawn

That is a good choice of words Baron. I have had one with a girl I had played against that started out as a helllo from each side and then went downhill from there. I am not going to give any examples because I swore to her, and to myself more, that I would never talk about it again.

Quite right. I like to chat here, and I KNow I talk too much(here and everywhere else:). But if the other player is really quiet and not replying much I generally keep quiet myself, like in any conversation with someone I don't know well.

This is a site where I can enjoy playing and learning chess with people from all different backgrounds from all over the world! I think I'd be mad not to talk to them. I even try to make an effort at politeness and use altavista's Babelfish to talk in my opponents' native tongue sometimes. Not sure how well that goes, but it's fun :) Perhaps that's where "my eyes have gotten sick" came from. And I also love to offer a draw when I'm obviously going to be beaten, the worse the beating I'm getting the funnier it is :)

As for polite silence, that's over the board stuff, not when you have 24hours or more to make a move. If you can't concentrate enough in 24 hours becasue someone typed a few lines to you, I think you have bigger problems than chess ettiquette.

I haven't had any really 'weird' conversations though. This thread has inspired me, I promise in one of my next few games to start a conversation with "I find your planet very interesting. Have you lived here long?". First player I get from a non-english speaking country.

Omicron

This is really not a conversation, since I didn't get to say a word before the guy wrote a billion stuff. I got all this messages at once the first time I got to click on a new greeting game, and frankly I found it quite funny.

CHESScom: You have been matched to play with Omicron, a volunteer Chess.com Greeter.

Your opponent might not be online right now! This kind of chess is called "turn-based" and is a little slower than regular chess, but your Greeter has been notified and will make their reply move soon! They can then answer any questions you might have about Chess.com.

After you make your move feel free to browse the site - you will automatically get an alert when your Greeter has moved!
