Somebody attempted to blackmail (threaten) me

Hi everybody, I'm very sorry to needlessly create a forum-post, but please may I have some advice upon the following issue: a certain player* tried telling me to "leave" or "ban" myself after he lost some material during our game. I attempted to talk with him (at least his profile denotes a male name, so I shall assume he was a man), however, he simply told me, "you like ban" (it was a long conversation). I offered a draw despite having an advantage in the endgame, and he took it.

However, I am still worried that he may complain about some made up activity of mine to Chess.com, thus rendering me unable to play chess here. Does anybody have any advice (sorry for the long explanation, thank you)

*I am withholding his identity because he may have been joking in a really weird way, but if you check the last game on my profile page that I have played today  (Thursday 27 October 2022), you will see him.

EDIT: As per TomCat's and HiramHolliday's advice, I have reported the player — thank you everybody, and hopefully nobody is banned by the end of this.

Report the incident.

I know, and thank you, but I would rather not report them if I could avoid it; I just want to make sure that the player in question doesn't enact their seeming threat.

I've had similar experiences.  I agree with HiramHolliday - report the incident.  They'll review and act as needed.  It may be an isolated event or it could be just one of many.  Best of luck - I'm sure everyone in this group would readily defend your name.
EDIT:  I went to your profile and looked at your game in question.  Looks to me like the opponent just made a few boneheaded mistakes.  You're far nicer than I to give a draw in a clearly winning position.  Also, reporting them doesn't necessarily result in them being banned.  It simply draws attention.  If it's only happened once then nothing will likely happen, but if they're repeatedly doing the same thing over and over then action may be taken.

Ok, thank you!!

Don't let it bother you, because you are worth living for. Never let people do things that causes harm to us that are being threatened in any type of way. Tell them you don't care what they say.

Honestly, this is probably what I should've done before lol — I've just never really experienced something like this before, sorry. Thank you though — I will bear that in mind for the future!!

a lot of players are frightened of playing in live chess at all, so you're still steps ahead of them

nothing will happen if you didn't do anything bad

Whoever wants a tough cupcake? It's just not natural.

You can't.  You are as free to report them as they are to report you. The site will make its decision based on their own independent investigation however flawed that might be.

Someone during covid years told me to watch my country burn (I live in the US) and that “hopefully someone will stab me, who knows?” But there are always peculiar figures on the internet.

Maybe the Julius Caesar name gave his antagonist the stabbing idea. Et tu....

To be honest I went through the same thing, but I told them to back off or I will call the cops, and then that's when I reported them for harassing, embarrassing me, and sending things that were on my private account. Also threatening to come to my house and take me.

We have zero tolerance towards threats and attacks like the one you're describing.

If you need any further help with this situation, don't hesitate to contact support about it. My PMs are also open for any questions and I will do my best to help you, but the correct thing to do is to ALWAYS report these users.

A report allows us to take the necessary measures against the abuser. That way, they'll not only leave you alone, but will also be kept from harassing other members of the Community.

Stay safe out here. I'm glad you took action happy.png

It is filled with trolls to the brim, just like 99% of the internet sites.
