Ever since around 1000 elo I've found great success using the Scandinavian as a reply to 1.e4, but I want to get into OTB tournaments and I've heard many bad things about the Scandinavian. I know there are a lot of similarities between the Scandi and Caro-Kann so should I try learning the Caro-Kann even as just a second opening I can use to not be a one trick for 1.e4 defenses?
Make sure you learn the various attacks against the Caro Kann if you do decide to play it. I used to fear facing it, but now I get excited every time my opponent plays it. Eric Rosen put out a video on how to crush the Caro Kann, and I have to say the attacks often work if my opponent doesnβt know them.
