I have an appointment to play against Anand at 8:30 am Pacific time on August 13th. Must mean I'm great.

the great Yaz Seirawan! I met him at the Skein world junior chess championship.

Wow!!  I have a book of his, let alone have listened to him a lot comment on live games on ICC.  He seems like a real gent, not to mention, he has a great voice. :)  What year was that?

There are 3 current gms who I have played and won from.

Two are

correspondence gms and they are Dan Fleetwood and Stephen Ham.

The over the board gm was Art Bisguier.  I have not played against any other grandmasters. [so my score vs gms could be said to be 3 wins, no losses and no draws]

The win vs the over- the -board grandmaster was the last year I played over the board chess and that was in 1973.  PS I realize that I was not THAT good--it is just I tried harder vs the top players I met.

i played Deeper Blue behind IBM headquarters and totally trounced the machine. Of course we were playing cribbage and it did not know how to play :)

So that's why he was so obsessed with mastering the game and so determined to win!  It's too bad you didn't let him have that rematch when you were 2...

The most famous GMs were probably Fischer and Spassky because of the huge press their WC match got.  Most people who lived in 72 knew those names, and most of the Americans I've met still know the name Fischer.  I'm betting Searching for Bobby Fischer also helps.  Past that, if you ask most people who Kasparov is, they won't know.

I haven't played anyone famous otb. But since otb chess sucks that was no surprise to me and good riddance to it.

When I was 15 I checkmated Charles Musgrove (USCF 2350) in 14 moves in a 35 board simultaneous exhibition at the Student Union at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Played 3 unrated OTB games with GM Bent Larsen.

Played many unrated games with GM Ron Henley.

Jonathan Mestel, an English mathmetician, GM, World Chess Solving Champion in 1997 and pretty mean bridge player to boot (when he was a boy and I was a college student).  He was playing on fourth board for Cambridge in the English lightning chess championship and I was making up the numbers for friends who were keen chess enthusiasts.  To my amazement I had the best of the opening, refused an offered repetition, predictably watched my game go downhill at lightning speed after that and then fluked a draw.  We were down to a rook and pawn ending and I noticed that only my rooks could move. So I left one en pris and he grabbed it then the other rook just followed his king around the board waiting for stalemate as soon as he got around to taking it.

GM Škoberne, 3rd in Slovenia at the time, in a real life simul and lost.

Well done, Miha! I played once GM Romero Holmes in a simul. He didn't win at move 1 because is theoretically impossible, but for me still it was like playing one-to-one against Michael Jordan.
