Make me a moderator
Just because you see a moderator account inactive, that doesn't mean they aren't actually active in their work. Of course all moderators have their account, but some might work with chess.com staff, or be on vacation, or a list of other reasons.Â
If you really want to apply to be a moderator, then follow the steps in this forum thread: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/the-chess-community-needs-you
That's a good question; I don't actually know the answer to this. I'd write to chess.com support, since they are chess.com Staff and would know.
I agree. Mods don't do much here.

How could you possibly know how much moderates do? 🤔
The forum topic is locked, can I still apply for moderator now?
Why not just apply and see? You might have just lost points for initiative
I agree. Mods don't do much here.

Any expert on null tactics would know

Do you really think mods live on the forums?

Don't bother engaging with martin_stahl. He's is not exactly a deep thinker.

And you are clearly not an expert on math. You don't know what "aleph null" means. But anyways, mods should be moderating in forums more. There shouldn't be only like 3-5 mods regularly doing work here.

I'm also clearly not a tendril.
Why should mods be moderating more? Will you be paying them?

I don't see why chess.com shouldn't pay them.

I don't see why chess.com shouldn't pay them.
Some of them might contribute value to the point they should be paid. But many don't. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Martin Stahl, as one of the most overpaid at $0.

Lol. Martin is one of the most active mods.
People get burnt out doing a bunch of free work. Chess.com has what, $100 million in revenue now? Time to stop penny-pinching on the forums. A full time staff member and at least token visits from the Community Manager seem warranted, but this area of Chess.com's media empire is completely ignored. How about 1/4 of a dev's time to also fix the many of the standing bugs (pagination, etc.)?

Yeah I think Martin should be a little less active. Actually, I think he should be a LOT less active.

Feel free to think that. It's never going to happen

great! give your time away for free all you like. just dont fool yourself into thinking you are doing anyone any good--other than providing free labor and magnifying talking points for chess.com management.
