Corey / Henriques 3, let's be honest, this is not a "name", it is a good descrption of the opening. When we speak of the longest opening name, we should think of Giuoco Pianissimo Deferred (24) and Spanish Four Knights Game (22) plus three others with resp. 21, 21 and 20 digits.
Longest opening name?

Ah.... thank you @RomyGer
When you (and perhaps others also) like it, those are the other three I ment: Nimzowitsch Queen's Pawn (21), Scotch Four Knight's Game (21) and Scandinavian Marshall Game.
And what about the shortest names ? Noa (after 4 moves), Tal (after 8 moves), Pin (5), Old (4), Kan (6), and tens with 4 letters.
Mind you, Nimzowitsch Queen's Pawn officially is named Nimzowitsch Queen's Pawn Defence, but I think we should not count the words Attack, Gamit, Variation and System.

Very interesting to see the differences in names, especially the short.
Also good call on excluding words such as Openings, Defence, System etc.
In one of my games, I have come across the opening known as:
King's Indian Defense: Fianchetto, Debrecen, Classical Main Line, 8.e4 a6.
While this could simply be known as a variation of the KID, the total of 11 words and 73 characters has made me curious....
What is the longest opening name within the chess.com database?
This could be seen as a competition, and I will consider all characters (including any additional plys), as long as it appears in the chess.com opening explorer.
Let's see what we can find eh?
