I recently read in an interesting book, which dissects old manuscripts, one of the chapters was about King Solomon and how he invented a game that was very popular in his time, the description of the game is oddly similar to chess. anyone think it's possible King Solomon was the inventor of our great game?

Possibly

Could be possible. But most likely, chess originated from India.

Definitely likely that it originated from India, but King Solomon ruled most of the world back then. And so it is possible that they would have gotten it from him. He was also known as a huge genius, so maybe it fits.

As long as we're making stuff up ...

The Third Commandment is against graven (carved) images. So I seriously doubt that any Jewish King ever invented (or even played) a game involving carved figurines.

King Solomon made temples to pagan gods and had hundreds of wives. He wasn't exactly following the commandments

Making images is only for idols, I'm Jewish I know you're able to carve out figures as long as it's not idle worship. King Solomon follow the commandments I believe. I don't think he served pagan gods.

Chess wasn't invented by anyone. There were many contemporary board games, all of them with very similar rules. Over time, the rules that were not a fun were discarded, and the rules that made for a more interesting game were kept.

The earliest documented references to chess-like games date back to around the 6th century CE in India. There are no known records or manuscripts from the time of King Solomon that describe a game resembling chess.

Possible .

Making images is only prohibited for idols. As a Jew, I know it's permissible to carve figures as long as they aren't used for idol worship. I believe King Solomon followed the commandments and did not serve pagan gods.

While there's no solid evidence that King Solomon invented chess, it’s fascinating to think about how ancient games might have influenced what we play today.
