Is there a way to properly test the skill/elo of a player?

I've been playing chess for about 2 years now (since the end of 5th grade), give or take a few months. My elo is in the 500 range and I've only frequently played on chess.com back in late 2023 when I was grounded. I have a few bursts of activity here and there, but most of my elo has come from that period of time. I've checked my calculated elo a lot of times and I kid you not more than half of my games are either close to or more than 2 times my elo range. My last match had an estimated elo of 1200 from me and 750 from my opponent. This, for obvious reasons, is VERY confusing because I'm a 500 elo player. Actually, I JUST CRACKED 500! SO FOR GOD'S SAKE CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME AN ACCURATE ELO TEST RAHAHAHHAJFAHlAJHEBFHAFEBIEAJFBAEHKBFIAEFBUF

If you want something accurate, play OTB rated Chess. Your OTB rating is going to between +/- 300 of here.

Yes there is.

First of all, disregard your chess.com rating, it isn't accurate or real.

Secondly, ignore "game rating" in Review, it's not real either and it depends on your chess.com rating and opponent chess.com rating.

The most accurate way to estimate your skill is to find Engine setting at which you win 50% of the games. Play at least 10 games to be sure. And the rating of such bot would be your estimated rating, close to what you would get in FIDE. Because the rating of engines is based on FIDE ratings. Rating of bots/engines is accurate and true. Even FIDE rating of humans is not always accurate at low levels. But rating of bots is precise. Komodo (chess.com bot engine) is calibrated to 5|5 Blitz, according to their homepage. That means if you play a long classical game with the bot, consider he is a bit overrated. Use ChessClock app to track time while playing. Concentrate on the game. If you've blundered - do not restart. Accept that loss otherwise your test won't be fair/accurate.

Play ten games with a bot. Use ChessClock app for 5|5 setting or just set a timer for 7 minutes and keep an eye on it. Additional two minutes will compensate for bot's thinking (usually quick) and lack of increments.

For each win add 1 point, for draw add 0.5 points. Then take bot's rating and add a number from the table according to your score:

0.5/10 -512
1/10 -382
1.5/10 -315
2/10 -241
2.5/10 -191
3/10 -147
3.5/10 -108
4/10 -70
4.5/10 -35
5/10 0
5.5/10 35
6/10 70
6.5/10 108
7/10 147
7.5/10 191
8/10 241
8.5/10 315
9/10 382
9.5/10 512

Example you've scored 7.5/10 against 1200 bot, your estimated FIDE Elo would be 1200+191=1391 Elo

^ This.

The most accurate Elo ratings are obtained through OTB chess, with classical (slow) time controls. Online ratings and ratings at fast time controls are highly inaccurate. They may help bring newcomers to the site, but they are neither reliable nor valid.
