I have been playing chess for 9 years and 6 years on chess.com. and everyone around me says it is a waste of time so I wanted to get some professional chess players opinion on it.

If you have to ask, then chess is not for you. Also, get some new friends. The people you're talking to seem pretty negative.

Depends on how you fit it into your daily life. If other aspects of your life are suffering because of chess, then it's a problem. But if you use it as a flow activity, to relax and unwind, it's great.

Nobody wants to honestly expose how and why chess helped them directly, or don't posses word fluency to articulate the answer. Reason being, why would an active player expose the truth of benefits, let alone the secrets of the game per se. if in that way they would just make their opponents stronger...

I just wanted to motivate you in a sense that it's a challenge to discover the hidden secrets of the game and if you succed so, you'll end even more determined.

I play chess to teach myself patience and as a brain exercise. I know I won’t ever be a GM, but if I can be good enough to challenge decent players, I’ll feel like I succeeded. Just depends on how you measure your success in chess.

If you were the only child in the fsmily, you would have more inner peace for the game. The only solution is you to be able to do at least 100 push-ups so the siblings would respect your boundaries, e.t., not to be emeshed with your schedule, privacy and independence.

i have 3 siblings and i can only do 50 pushups lol!!

President Benjamin Franklin was a chess.com player, but he only played at night as a way to unwind before bed.

Simply depends if you’re playing just for fun or you’re going to try playing professionally.
