Depends on how you fit it into your daily life. If other aspects of your life are suffering because of chess, then it's a problem. But if you use it as a flow activity, to relax and unwind, it's great.
Is chess worth the time?

Nobody wants to honestly expose how and why chess helped them directly, or don't posses word fluency to articulate the answer. Reason being, why would an active player expose the truth of benefits, let alone the secrets of the game per se. if in that way they would just make their opponents stronger...
If you have to ask, then chess is not for you. Also, get some new friends. The people you're talking to seem pretty negative.
those arent mt friends lol. those are my parents and siblings.

If you were the only child in the fsmily, you would have more inner peace for the game. The only solution is you to be able to do at least 100 push-ups so the siblings would respect your boundaries, e.t., not to be emeshed with your schedule, privacy and independence.
I have been playing chess for 9 years and 6 years on chess.com. and everyone around me says it is a waste of time so I wanted to get some professional chess players opinion on it.
