Or change a rule.

Just once in a game you can skip and turn and take two turns after. You announce you're skipping, the other player gets two turns then you get two turns.

That's an interesting idea...

pawns can move 2 squares (torpedo chess) or there is a new piece (8x9 board) with the powers of a knight and bishop, worth 7 points

allowing to capture own pieces when needed

That would change checkmate patterns completely! No smothered mate, no back rank mate.

If you advance your king to the other end it can turn into a queen

1 chance to takeback within 3 moves

You kinda need the king, though...

Being able to get 1 free check on anybody

You win if you are able to give a good enough reason why you should win.

I'm not that creative, sorry

My rule would be that I can instantly declare a move invalid and declare myself the winner

Also, I know someone is going to change stalemate rules - I just know it grin.png

Under-rated comment; this could be useful happy.png

I'd put back the rule that in cases where checkmate requires more than 25 moves, you get double the theoretically required number of moves to checkmate your opponent.

at the beggining of the game, the 2 kings will be at center allowing the pawns to threaten to attack the kings
