I don't understand this

Hi guys its me.

I am facing a conundrum where I my rapid elo is around 400-500, but I have beaten bots such as Wendy(1500) and Nelson(1300). and also my puzzle rating 857.

I don't understand why my rapid rating isn't going up.

so help me pls

ArambolChess

Inability to beat stronger players is the reason rating doesn't go up. Maybe stop playing bots and focus on real matches instead.

When I was new to Chess.com, I played mostly bots and not real players, but it's been a good 5 years or so and now I usually play real players, but practice against Wendy(1500).

I played three games and by rating went up by 41 elo.

not three sorry, I played five

Bots are overrated. Some low and mid-level bots are grossly overrated. Ignore bot ratings. Those are not ratings at all, those are just meaningless numbers some programmer wrote there.

He is right: I have the same problem too except I’m stuck at 1300 Elo and I’m keen on Puzzles. I think this is even stranger

Puzzles are also overrated. More specifically, puzzle ratings are only accurate for those players who don't calculate at all, just pick a semi-random good-looking move and play it without hesitation.

I know that’s different but Puzzles are combined by tactics such as pin and skewer. Instead, a real game needs a good opening, middlegame and sometimes endgame tactic to be win. I sometimes even reach 1800 ELO in the revision or when I play really well 2000. How are you gonna explain this?

Those estimates are wildly inaccurate. If you want to be kind to the developers, you can call it an experimental feature. A less kind person would say it's complete nonsense.

i,m quickly look at your few games. In my opinion you are good player and you will go up.
Maybe you are too impatient and would like to go straight to the top. For example, I set myself annual goals and recently they look like this: I want to maintain my ranking or go up 50 points (in a year). If someone assumes that they will improve their ranking by 300 points within a few months (sometimes, of course, this can happen), it is hardly surprising that they seem to be "stuck". For me, chess is a lifelong hobby and I am not in a hurry, I focus on slow progress and I am patient. If you are impatient and if for you chess is a ranking, sooner or later you will get irritated and maybe even quit playing.

I think that most times I’m too concentrated that my opponent can’t outsmart me and other times it’s the same opposite but that’s for everyone not just for me. I can’t see where the problem is

You’re right but that is a part of the problem and when I lose badly for example by checkmate, I try to calm down. If I lose on time I don’t even get angry. I’m disappointed that I’ve improved since September but my rating is still there. Of course, my character also gets me down during games and without this problem I would be almost unstoppable. I don’t want to reach Magnus but at least the Upper Advanced level

Andreadefeder

I don’t even want to get Premium because I know that won’t help me improve

I have checked your last 3 lost games, and I found a pattern.

In the last game, you had a better endgame, but you had only 1 minute left, blundered (move 40) and lost.

In the game before, you made a crucial decision hastily, in only 8 seconds (move 17). Followed by a blunder that lost the game.

In the game before, you were in horrible time trouble. Your opponent had a perpetual check, but instead he choose to deviate, get into a totally lost position and win on time.

The common theme here is "bad time management". That is something you can and should work on.

Another possible solution is to play 10 minute instead of 5 minute blitz.

Andreadefeder

I know but I’ve started playing Blitz recently and I’m not interested in them. I just wanted to be faster for tournaments. Check out me last rapid games apart from the one with timebet: he is a friend of mine but I let him win yesterday so that doesn’t count

Andreadefeder

Bad time management only happens with Blitz but I’m interested on Rapid.
