Give money or offer cigerattes and they will pay attention.

Well all i can say is.. do you have more knowledge them them? Because my highschool chess club has all good players and we have no chess "teachers".

Im not saying none should have one but rarely any are "strong" enough to teach experienced chess club members.

My chess team has a pretty good teacher, but with the exception of a single person new this year, everyone who's joined knows how to play, so he hasn't done much more than offer his own advice every now and then. He's actually really good, and he's beaten me the couple of times I've played him.

Anyhoo, my advice: just play with everyone in the team, and act like you know what you're doing, even if you don't. You'd be suprised how well that works, I've won at least two games that way ;-)

Teach them basic principles.  Then have them play games with each other.  Make sure they notate their games.  When they are finished, the must give them to you.  You then analyze the games, going into detail regarding chess principles.  That's how you learn chess best: from your own games.

ok thank you all!

trigs

1) having an ongoing tournament between the players adds a little competition and excitement.

2) daily puzzles for them to look at and analyze (you could even "borrow" the chess.com one every day ;)

3) analyze GM games with them

4) analyze their games with them (just rotate between all the members and use their annotated games that they played at your club)

5) you could even take a popular chess book and go through it with them in lesson form (if you really want to look smart, just study the chapter/lesson at home and then teach it to them the next day)

Dip-set

I never had a coach but I found books and puzzles pretty useful. They teach you basic patterns and important positions to remember. Also, try to help each of them create their own opening repertoire so they have some knowledge of openings and get comfortable playing a few of them.
