I am also struggling. She is supposedly 1800, but she's playing at 2050-2100 every game according to the analysis tool. I've tried Queens Gambit, King's Indian, London, French and Modern, no joy so far across 20 attempts. Guess I'll have to try something else!!

The ratings estimate is incredibly unreliable. The error margin is far greater than a couple of hundred points.

That said, the number given as a bot's rating (which is 1800 in this case) is even more meaningless. That's just a number written there, it's not a real rating. The developer can write "1", or "0", or even "potato", those will be just as relevant as "1800".

Thanks magipi -agree there's a lot of variance. It seems like they're programmed to have a % chance of an inaccuracy, and whether that triggers or not substantially changes the outcome. I just got HollyBot to "fall for" a pretty simple tactic in the advanced French (but then messed up my endgame), so maybe I've just been unlucky with the lack of inaccuracies so far

The Bots ratings are not really ratings IMO

I recently discovered chess.com and have thoroughly enjoyed playing against other players and using the bots at 5+5 as practice, which I thought that was what they were for. IN the real world I am a weakish club player 1700 rating so just a fun player, but I know the basics of endgames.

From my experience, I have regularly beaten the bots by avoiding any tactical openings or lines, opting for slow openings, and always aiming for the endgame. The free bots up to 2300 rating tend to be quite weak in endgames. Not really weak, just they do not play two moves which make any sense together. So they are not 1800 or 2,000 or whatever.

Of the free bots, the 2500-rated Spanish bot has been particularly challenging. Despite my best efforts, I have yet to beat it and have twice reached a queen vs. rook endgame, only for it to draw by the fifty-move rule.

When I lose to a bot (even low 'rated' ones), it’s usually due to tactics, which I believe is a common experience for most players against these limited bots. So avoid tactics

Regarding Holly Bot (I’ll refrain from sharing the results out of modesty 😉), I suggest trying a slow opening with only one or two open or semi-open files and avoiding any tactical exchanges unless you’re confident you’ll come out on top. Opt for quiet lines, avoid gambits or sharp lines, exchange queens and rooks if possible, and be careful not to drop any material or leave anything loose.
