How do you guys deal with chess frustration?

Sort:
leore1

I always get hyped to play chess and play a lot of games, but frustration always gets the best of me and I end up abandoning the game for a while. How to deal with that? Chess is a cruel game!!!!

This is your game stats:

Last 7 days- 41 games (almost 6 games/day)

Last 30 days- 41 games (1.36 games/day)

Last 90 days- 101 games (almost 1 game/day)

Last 1 year- 518 games (almost 1.4 games/day)

Numbers don't lie. So basically you are not playing that many games. In fact, that's like a bare minimum. Are you sure your frustration is with the number of games or number of people you are interacting with? 😉

At least, ask a genuine question so people can help you 😂

Follow the drill, take a chill pill and don't fall ill. 🤭

Lol imagine stressing yourself over game results or rating in an online game full of cheaters and sandbaggers.

If I get frustrated I just stop playing for the day

a : On chess.com I don't really have any frustration because I don't care about elo and I don't have a real objective against humans. I play because it's more fun against humans and to avoid developing anti-bot gamplays that are "bad" against humans.

b : Against bots to manage frustration I alternate between playing, watching bots against bots from the same program I play and work or study in relation to my weaknesses that prevent me from progressing in the rating against bots from Chessmaster.

You really thing that's what this user looks like? It's probably some fat Russian guy that hasn't bathed in weeks swilling cheap vodka.

Well, you can’t be worse than your profile pic. If you are, then sorry.

take a rest for a while from chess, back again if you get the mood again

RyanZ_MD

Why don't you play unrated? Then even if you lose, you won't lose any points.

DreamscapeHorizons

They make medicine to help with that feeling of frustration.

Rustedlongsword

I'm struggling with it as well. I know learn from your loses, study them and take responsibility for them, but those pesky emotions keep getting in the way..

When I feel so stressed that I lose the games, I don't play on that day again. There's no point in playing chess affected by stress and anger. If you play, you certainly will lose. Chess isn't just a strategy game, it's also an emotional game. I know I'm a beginner but I already suffered a lot because of it. When it comes to chess, you need to act like a machine, almost without emotion. The more you play impersonally, the more you are likely to win. I remember when I lost seven matches in a row after a tiring day at the school

Stat whys your better than your rank would suggest. I would like to also say if you look at percentages, your better then 80% as am I, but we take it personally when we lose. I also struggle with this.

When you burn out on playing chess:

1. Play through games of favorite historical players:

2. Play through games from famous historical tournaments:

3. Play games in collections of best attacking games, best endgames, etc.;

4. Look at the chess compositions of Sam Loyd and Raymond Smullyan.

You can respark your love of the game, and learn something that will improve your play.

4.

Having a healthy relationship with chess is a hard thing to achieve. Maintaining it is harder. Many, including me, resonate with your struggle.

when you lose a game sometimes you just got to let it out

holding your feelings in can make you feel depressed

so sometimes just go in your room and let it out
