Well they're still right where they always were using the browser, so I gather you are using one of the mobile apps? I don't use them, but somebody should be able to help.
How do I play against the bots now?

No, I'm not using the mobile app. I seem to have a new UI as of this morning that does not let me choose the computer bots. When I hover over the "Play" button on the left I do not get a sub-menu.
When I click the "Play" button I am taken to this screen:
None of the options on that screen give me the choice of playing a bot. It used to be under "play online, but that UI now looks like this:
And none of the options there lead me to the bot players.

I don't have that option, that I can tell. The way that I used to get to it was by hovering over "Play" and then choosing "Live Chess". However, hover now does nothing.
In exploring further though, it seems like other things are broken (I can't log out, and clicking "More" does nothing), so I think that the site is just somehow broken for me. I'll try clearing my cache and cookies to see if that fixes things.

No love. Amusingly enough, the "report a bug" flyout option does nothing as well, so I can't even report this.
Must be a cache issue you're having. I've been playing bots fine the past few hours and getting utterly destroyed by Nora. Play > Live Chess > Play >Vs Computer.

Turns out incognito mode solves everything, so definitely some kind of cache/cookie issue. Weird. I'll keep playing around, but at least now I have a work-around (incognito mode).

Chrome. Possibly ad-blocker extension, since it works in incognito mode. Good idea, lemme try disabling that for this site.
Edit: Nope, not ad blocker
If you click search and plug the name of a bot, then enter...you can play that bot.
May need to plug in bot for recharging.

Not sure if you are still having this issue, but I was having the same problem so I read through all these comments. But I figured it out!! I could play the bots on my phone but not the computer, and I tried all the suggestions above. Turns out all I had to do was log out of chess.com from my phone and boom! all the bots show up on my computer now. 😃 Hope this helps any fellow nerds having the same problem!
I have no problem accessing the bots to play on my computer. But in late November, playing against rated bots became unavailable. The reason, from Chess.com, was that some of the players were using them unfairly. It's been a great loss to me, that also prefers playing "the bots", but only if they're rated.

Hello everybody,
For a variety of reasons, I don't like playing humans online. However, I really enjoyed the ability to play against a variety of "bots" with different "personalities". They all had names like "Wendy-bot" or "David-bot", with their own pet openings and such. This helped me learn new openings and analyze my games later to see where I messed up.
I enjoyed playing these bots more than I like the 1-10 computer scale opponents because they had more variety, their rating changes based on how they are doing versus other players, and they move instantly.
I can no longer figure out how to challenge these bots. Can anyone help direct me to the correct way to challenge these bot players in the new UI?
