To everyone,

If you will please look at my game, apb2120 vs westre. I am winning, have the most pieces, the most points, and yet this individual will not resign. He has said he will either have me chase him or give me a draw. I am frustrated. This was at first a very good game. Well played until the very end. Now he simply moves his king and bishop around. In understand it is my responsibility to finish the end game. But normally in a situation like this the propper thing to do would be for the guy to be a gentleman and resign. Am in in the wrong. Help. To all, thanks.

What's amusing is that you complain that your opponent won't resign in a clearly lost position while you are more than 3 pieces down in one of your other games and still not resigning yourself. Do as I say, not as I do? Smile

As You still have your Queen and he don't, so what you do is focus on the Bishop... Just put his King in chess, so that you can take his Bishop at the same time! After that is it just a piece of cake!

I've added a bit to Reb's quote.

Wow!  Reb's right about your double standard.  Your other game is clearly lost.  Also, your game with cappy was interesting.  How many times were you planning on offering up your queen?

Adding to all the posts above, there's only one alternative--checkmate him!

THAT IS WHAT I THINK...BUT IF UR OPPONENT CONTINUES TO PLAY.. U HAVE TO PUNISH HIM...!! LOL..

My advice is to exchange Bishops so it's a Queen+King vs. King endgame... that's a really easy win, and checkmate will be soon to follow.

You can't really expect or force your opponent to resign. If you have the advantage it's your responsibility to force the mate in case you have a stubborn opponent who doesn't know when to quit.

I just did look at this game.... By move 70.Kf6 folows Qe6+! But if you offer your Bishop, You also get his Bishop in return! So then has to folow Qxc7... Also you will lose your Bishop... But it is easy to put a king Chechmate with a Queen and a King... Just puss him to the side and even better in the corner! As your King is opposite his king and one line between, he cannot go forward anymore... Than put him Checkmate with your Queen, and you will succeed! Regards, Paul

You have to KILL the KING, take pleasure in doing so.

Please don't give advice on ongoing games.  Thank you.  Regards, Paul

Hmm, queen up in one game and insisting your opponent resigns but a rook, 2 knights and 3 pawns down in another game and not resigning yourself. Pot meet kettle.

when someone resigns they know they have no hope of a draw at best. if he thinks he has a chance show him he's wrong. as for having an advantage of pieces sometimes of someones in a good position the pieces dont have alot to add advantage-wise.sometimes you just need to show to them and to yourself that you have the ability to use your advantage and pull out a cheackmate.as for yourself maybe you should take a look back on your own advice if you find it annoying and resign from your othrgame in respect.

At this point, he can't win, but he can draw by means of insufficient material. Or you could offer a draw. Or, the easiest way, ACTUALLY CHECKMATE HIM. It's not hard.

Resigning is good if finishing the game will frustrate you or fry your mind.

Otherwise, don't. The best of players blunder.

jbot43
Eh. I should say; Even the best of players blunder at times.
JollyBishop
checkmate him. Then you win the game.

I played chess when I was a teen and then didn't play much until just recently.  Needless to say I am a beginner again.  I play every game till the end, if for no other reason than to learn.  I had a game the other day where all I had left was a rook.  Thinking there was no hope for me, when my opponent asked me to resign, I almost said yes.  However, in keeping with my, learn something from every  game philosophy, I played on.  When given the opportunity to check him, I did so and managed to mate him.  I knew it was purely by accident but I didn't tell my opponent.  The moral of the story?  Play on, unless you have mastered the game  is nothing more for you to learn.
