Has someone done a comparison of SCID, SCID vs PC, ChessDb, and ChessX?

I'm wondering what the best open source chess database program is?

I mainly use SCID vs PC, but haven't been keeping up with things. I used to use SCID but it wasn't getting updates, so moved to that option instead

I'm using SCID vs PC and have no real complaints but wonder if there is something better. One thing I like about SCID vs PC is the support for my Novag Citrine. It allows me to input using a real board.

ChessDB is another version of Scid. It has some useful features -- most notably making it much easier to strip tags. But they just came out with a new version of Scid a few days ago, and it's pretty handy. It's *fast*, that's for sure. Nothing loads slower than Scid vs. PC (even though it's a very useful program) and now nothing loads faster than regular Scid.

ChessX isn't useful day-to-day, but it does allow you to open books in CB, Scid, Polyglot and Arena formats. There's also Arena and Tarrasch, as well as Lucas Chess. That last one is a bit of a diamond in the rough. It looks like there's almost nothing to it, but that's just the weird design of the menu system.

Yes I've been seeing updates to SCID.

Right now I have Scid vs PC and also Chessx. I am trying to navigate a database of 163 games that I filtered through png-extract.

It's a great command line tool for filtering out games by criteria to limit it to the relevant games you want.

But then I still need to choose which database software to view the games and then analyze them how I want. If I find which software works the best for that, then I will reply here.
