Lately I've been in contact with a very kind IM chess player to whom I asked for some online lessons. She told me about these chess servers where you can log on and see the board, discuss over it, make the moves, etc etc... A totally interactive live online lesson experience.
I probably didn't see or investigate very much about it, but I saw that all of them are software based and membership based, so that it means that you have to download a software plus get a paid membership in order to have access to it.
Now with Web 2.0 I am very capable of offering a free open source online chess client-server, in which you could do just the same, but for free, probably anonymously and by using a browser. We could merge a different set of technologies in order to get a board engine, private chat rooms and optionally voIP to speak to each other.
Chess coaches could charge for their online lessons privately, we could also offer a way to document or prove lesson length and lesson participants (anonymity is not an option in this particular case) for the students and coaches' records.
Now, my question is: Would you be happy to hear of this software? Would you use it? Do you think it is a good idea? Has it been made already? Please, post your opinions here...
