This championship has made me realize one thing:
Ding has the same problem I do. Not playing aggressively enough, and not managing time well + choking badly after not managing time well.
I'm already on the path to being a GM /s

A very strange match by Ding. He was psychologically unprepared for the WC. We got a glimpse of his abilities in game 12, but during the rest of the match he tried to avoid complications, even when they might have favoured him, just to lose an endgame any master should draw even at blitz time controls. As for Gukesh, he did not impress me. A top GM, he surely is, but not an imposing champion. He is still far from Caruana, Nakamura or Erigaisi in the lists and did not give a particularly strong performance. We will see, he is only 18.
In the end, today's blunder, along with that of game 11, decided the title. Not a match to remember, unless you are Indian.
It was not a "weird performance" by Ding. He is likely the weakest world chess champion since Euwe, or something. I actually feel like he over performed on this match. Before the start of the match, I thought (Alongside what seemed to me the majority of chess annalists and commentators at the time) that Gukesh would win somewhat comfortably and in the end was actually close.
But yeah, I am actually excited for the next WCC cycle. For the first time in years I legitimately don't know who will be the next champion. I think that's actually add some excitement for the competitions.
I hope you enjoyed this World Championship. If you are a fan of Gukesh, the Gukesh D fan club is looking for new members https://www.chess.com/club/gukesh-d-fan-club
Congratulations for the post. High quality
Thank you so much! Appreciate your kind words.
Congratulations to Gukesh! Youngest champ ever
Yeah that's why I was cheering for him...and because he's wanted for so long to be the youngest world champ and now he's earned it! Very happy for him...

Poor Ian...
OMG MY CRYING HAPPY FOR GUKI
Of course you are. Gukesh is more attractive.
I'd also be happy if Dina Belenkaya became world master.
Not that it matters. But since you brought it up, Ding does look like he got hit in the face with a frying pan.
But as a chess fan, I found it embarrassing the reigning chess champion would blunder mate in one against Carlsen.
Least that is behind us.
I am more shocked by his blunder today than the one in game 11, because even I would not have made the blunder he did.
I would not have known that white could "hold" the position with the rooks on the board, but would know for certain there was no chance of holding it without them.
