Knight in the middlegame and bishop in the endgame. Bishops can reach further in open positions, whereas knights are great to leap over obstacles in closed ones.

Depends on the position. Usually closed positions with a lot of blocked pawns favor knights. Open positions with a lot of room favor bishops. But either piece could be in a strong position, it just depends what’s going on.
