Delta Airlines Chess Game Crushes on Easy!

So uh ya…just flew Delta, and I started playing the Chess game they had installed in the back of the seat monitor.

I don’t play humans online that often, but my equal AI elo to play against is 1200 rated. Played 10 games against Delta Airlines chess and lost all ten. The thing didn’t blunder or make stupid tempo-breaking moves for no reason. Thought, ok, I’ll set the level down, it must be on medium or hard…nope…it was set to easy. I couldn't get a leg up ever, in the 20 games I played on ‘easy.’ If I were the designer of that game, I’d set easy to 500-ish elo, medium to 1500, and hard to 2500 or something (matching with chess.coms norms). Having the ‘easy' mode take me to school ever game felt bad. The 'easy' mode seemed to be around 1600 or higher elo in my mind.

Anyone play the airliner chess games?

This was a photo of the chess game on Delta.

I just got off a Delta flight today and gave it a try on easy. You are absolutely right. I kinda feel like the bot was comparative to a chess.com 2000 rated bot to be honest but maybe I am crazy. I could beat a chess.com 1600 rated bot with not too much issue.

Ya. It's like they threw the game in with no afterthought. Somebody took the time to 'program' this game. I assume it's they who are the culprit. I'd reckon they don't play chess at all.

You're flying.  Something humans have been able to do for maybe100 years.  And you're complaining about an inaccurate rating on an in-flight chess game.  What a spoiled baby.

I'm having fun with a dialog about chess. I'm far from complaining. I'm not sad or mad. I'm not losing sleep. It's a thought-experiment about the person who developed this chess game. Just for fun.

Jill, your comment is so off-the-cuff jerky, it's hard to believe. Are you trolling us?

Wait...wait...YOU'RE the creator?!

ps. You give spoonerisms a bad name. wink.png

I used the game analysis mode on chess.com to effectively cheat against the delta airlines chess computer on easy after getting my ego crushed a couple times. After analyzing the games, chess.com game review gave the “easy” bot a 1450 rating with both the white and black pieces.

I couldn’t wait to get off the plane and stand in a security line as it was less painful thanks constantly losing. 😂

Big Yikes!

Guess I'm not flying delta ever again, not that I have flown delta before.

Just played today, hard was reasonable but didn’t have a strong mid game and once it went down it was pretty easy.

Easy was worse. It would make random moves sometimes.

Maybe different updates/versions?

I flew American Airlines this past weekend. Played chess on the 'Begginer' mode. The biggest mistake the program had was the spelling of Beginner. It proceeded to crush me repeatedly in what feels like was a 1800-2000 rated bot at that level. On Chess.com, I play the bots around 1600 and compete, winning some but losing more. I never had a winning chance against the AA bot on beginner.

Air India's chess is nonexistent (no games work, not even the game menu sad.png)

Hahha. My bot on easy was no where near this silly.
