This happened to me last night. I pin my opponent's queen to their king and they were much higher rated. Suddenly the game aborted and I couldn't play blitz chess. I tried to create another challenge but couldn't. I thought it was my connection, but I was able to do tactics puzzles. Something weird/shady is going on.

There was a server restart. When that happens all ongoing games are aborted

This has happened in 3 games in 1 day. This cannot be a coincidence

If there were connection issues between you and the site then having it happen multiple times during that time wouldn't be unexpected.

Happens to me a lot, I'm in a winning position and wondering why my opponent is taking so long only to realise I'm disconnected, I reload page and I lost due to abandonment. My internet connection is good so wtf? Only ever happens in winning positions.

The obvious answer is people have found a way to hack the chess.com server and boot opponents. I mean if nerds have spare time and like cheating, it's a no brainer.

If it's possible to hack a server then why does anyone think the chess.com server is impenetrable?

While anything is possible, it's not likely to be happening.

The moves are being sent over a websocket using secure websocket browser protocol wss:// ... its quite possible that the attacker is able to send extra bogus or status messages and the other side (victim) can't keep up anymore. So yes after experiencing it multiple times I'm pretty sure this is a thing now. Most likely I'll stick to playing important matches only with a fast line now...

If it happens once or twice, sure but I;ve played 10 games now and it consistently happened 4 times in a row a disconnect + timeout loss occurs right after making a winning move.

happens all the time to me...oddly always when I'm winning, which makes me think it is a javascript hack by my opponent.

You opponents can't impact your connection
