Im writing this post to see if i am the only one experiencing this issue. Please leave a comment if you have the same problem from time to time to help bring awareness to this issue so that issue can be addressed by Chess.com. Im interested to hear others experiences if any. Thank you!

Your client and your oponnent's client never directly communicate. Both connect to the Live server process on Chess.com and it handles all communications and transfers of data. Your opponent doesn't know your connection details.

If you get disconnected, it is some problem on your end (or with the client code), a problem between you and the Live server, and potentially a problem with the Live server itself. It isn't your opponent.

Take a look through the following information, it may help with ideas on how to limit problems on your end (the rest is out of your control).

I have experienced this, the method I use to to simply close the browser and reopen it (re-log into chess.com).  It works nearly all the time (a few times I just can't get back in so I had to abandon the game).

A more likely cause is when there is a bug in chess.com client-side software (usually, when I experience the browser freeze, my cpu usage is very high, pretty much 100% working on a single thread on an i5) that probably loops forever or something.

Another possiblility is advertisement taking up a lot of bandwidth, pausing the chess.com client software from communicating with the server.  This either triggers a client-side backoff algorithm that delays repeated sends or just triggers a poorly written (or buggy) code that brings on the inifite-ish busy looping.

Another possibility is malware injected thru ads; I've seen this done on chess.com before (and I stopped playing here) but now I don't noticed it these days.  These malware are generally badly written (or just that the developers just don't care) and breaks when the environment isn't exactly what they expect.  And breaking generally causes browesr to freeze (e.g. they may inject crap into the HTML DOM structure).

So many more other possibilities.  It can be investigated though, if anybody is interested.  Firstly, monitor the traffic (e.g. tcpdump or wireshark) and find out where data is going/coming.  Is it chess.com server?  How much of the data?  Does chess.com client still TX/RX?  This can eliminate a lot of possibilities.

Yes I close and re-open the app on android if it happens to me, this works. Although last time I only had 5 seconds left in a 5/5 game 😟

Yes, it certainly adds excitement to blitz games (I've lost many games because of it, where I had a huge material advantage and just need to checkmate a king with rook/queen in with like 30 secs on the clock but couldn't do it because each move took 10+ secs and logging back in took me a whole minute : )

Another funny thing is that I can feel this problem is coming up because my moves are getting slower and slower, I can see my opponent's pieces move (very, very slowly) to their destination location.  Mainly it is a problem only in blitz.

thank you for all the feedback. sometimes i can click the refresh button in my address bar and I'm back in the game. I actually went to buy the membership thinking it could be the ads in which the membership would stop the flooding of such ads but i couldn't purchase because there was no button to click to purchase. I'm on a mac so i don't get the advertisements like i do on my windows based pc. none at all to be clear. because they are not getting threw it is causing issues? I'm going to exhaust all avenues to remedy the issue. again thank you for your thoughts.

Hello, I'm fairly new here as well and have been "disconnected" from my Wi-Fi as well yet only when I'm in a winning scenario. I have the very best of connection and has never happened in my home .. ever so, it definitely is something only here. I do enjoy playing here yet, I have been bullied as well as this new " disconnected" when I have an advantage lead. I just want to share this with you all, and for those that have played with me, thank you and looking forward to some deep dive into fixing this so no one else is bullied or " disconnected" . I would like to continue using this website and enjoying all it has to offer. Thank You .

Yes I really think that people know how to manipulate this, because it NEVER happens when I am in a loosing position....

People are not manipulating connections. Your opponents never directly connect to your client and would have to hack the live server to do something like that. If they were able to get that kind of access, they wouldn't be disconnecting their opponents.

Around the time you posted, the whole live server was having an issue.

They are using some kind of booter software which boots you from the game.  It only ever happens to me when I am winning.

Clients never directly connect. Your opponents can't impact your connection at all.

Here's an example of games I am losing with this hack!  Typically when the other player has lost the game, the winning player is booted for no reason.

Again, your opponent can't cause you to disconnect.  The only way would be to have full access to the server and if someone had that, they wouldn't be using it to disconnect some games.

In your 14 losses by abandonment, it looks like you only had winning positions in 4. Some you were losing and some were even.

Ooooo... it's all a big conspiracy.   I have a friend who's convinced people on here can tinker with his time to cause him to lose.  Hahahaha.  He's sure of it, can't convince him otherwise.

I have been experiencing this too. Just lost two games after being disconnected from my connection immediately after making a winning move in each game. When I say 'winning move' I mean that the game shifted strongly in my favour. It's very suspicious as it happened immediately after the winning move on both occasions, twice in succession. It's happened to me before, but I did a search for the issue and found this thread. It feels like someone is using some kind of hack to win games by timing the other person out.

This happened to me last night. I pin my opponent's queen to their king and they were much higher rated. Suddenly the game aborted and I couldn't play blitz chess. I tried to create another challenge but couldn't. I thought it was my connection, but I was able to do tactics puzzles. Something weird/shady is going on.

Please read the rest of the thread. Nothing shady is going on.

As Martin_Stahl patiently explained, each player has a separate connection to the Chess.com servers. There is no way for one player to interfere with the connection of the other player.
