Chess can be a lot like gambling, you just keep chasing that win but get more and more frustrated. When that happens you tend to overthink/overreach. And it becomes a vicious circle, at 12 I doubt you have thought about the psychology of it. For me it is a matter of walking away, be it for a day or a week or a month. Know when to take a break from the game.
Chess tilt very emotional
Hi Abhinavmb,
I can feel your frustration. It's definately a thing. What I do is deliberately avoid my openings that run me into constant trouble, and switch out to something new or something I haven't played for awhile. Sometimes you can get into a rut thinking that your particular opening(s) can see you through to 2000+, but in reality they're just tools in the tool box. The best part of going into slightly unknown territory with openings is you improve reading positions rather than relying on learnt theory, and then you should get back the "feel" for positions and improve rapidly again.
Anyway worth a shot. If you want a great all-round opening to learn for both white and black - watch the youtube series "Aman's Taimanov Speedrun". It's definately opened my eyes to new tactics and positions... Enjoy
I'm twelve, and I really don't lose chess games that much. I recently hit 1700 rapid, and decided to play some games after that. After losing every single game, I nearly tilted 200 POINTS down! I feel like I'm so dumb to be losing to 1500's, and When I play a new game, the stigma shivers me and makes me lose that game. How do I overcome these tilts?
