Chess hangover ?

I have heard many people claiming chess is an intelectual sport. Following that, do you agree that chess , like any other sport or exercise , fatigues the body or the mind ?

If so , will you also agree that is necessary a recuperation time after several hours or days playing ? I ask this because I have been playing a lot recently, everyday, but I dont feel I'am improving, I feel I am actually getting worse and I think that is strange. Maybe i had a chess overload and now i cant even think lol

So I wanted to know if anyone takes a few days off  , like you do when you exercise a lot, to rest your mind of the chess exercise ?

Maybe not a few days off, I don't think is wrong to play almost daily, but not too many games. It's also necessary to dedicate some time to study and rest, of course. If you play OTB games at standard controls you should reserve enough time to analyze them calmly.

How do you eficciently analyze a game

Pulpofeira

I don't think I'm able to make a good analysis, but you can always learn something from a review. Anyone can spot mistakes and think about alternative choices, and the more you do it, the better you become at analysis and at play. It's difficult to progress at any activity, no matter how often you practice it, if you don't dedicate some time to critizice yourself.

You may be trying to get better too fast like me instead of enjoying the game.

I am a complete beginner and utterly useless at this stage; however I have found more success following my own mind and enjoying the game for now than delving into complex openings etc which stymies my way of thinking.

Starting to work on tactics / puzzles a bit but not too much for now.

Diet, sleep and exercise I suspect also plays a role.

For some of us a chess hangover is the same as a real hangover.  Drink plenty of water, eat some hard boiled eggs, and take your B vitamin supplements.  Cheers.

So it is a real thing ?

I don't know.  How would I tell the difference?  I'm drunk most of the time.

Lol. When I saw that you had posted last, I wanted to say the same thing!

Yes and I get them bad. It is usually in response to having a bad day. I go into a spiral of playing for way too long and end but where my brain feels broken, have massive headaches and can not look at computer for a day or so
