only answer I know here is... yes, I had... many times... basically the same you had... also, sometimes about some opening traps... or just playing with someone but unable to remember what was on board properly...
Chess dreams?
Maybe a little.
The game the took my dreams was portal.
Played through it in one night, the physics of the game invaded my dreams
Yep, I've had them, but their always a little too vague. It's not like I'm waking up saying, 'oh, that's how I could have won that game.' Also, interestingly, I can't see the whole board. It usually seems to be just a quadrant or so of the board that I'm trying to operate on. Maybe as I get better at the game the board will get bigger.
I once had a chess dream. Very strange. I don't remember exactly but it was either Komodo or Houdini playing against me. It was a very long game and I won! I was really happy for the rest of the day that I played so strongly. No joke man!
I dreamt I was playing a friendly game against Garry Kasparov (in a bay window in an Amsterdam apartment - it was a sunny day). He played the KID as black, we were still in the opening and I ventured d5 (but not as part of a four pawns attack because my bishop was already on d3). He looked up at me and I asked "What's the matter?". He said "Okay, black is still winning, but that is a really interesting move". I asked him why and he started laughing in that way he does, and then suddenly stopped and looked dead serious. Then it gets a bit fuzzy, and the only other thing I remember is having a weird mix of emotions - pleased and honoured that the great man was playing chess with me so informally, anxious that he or someone else would find out that I was really a total patzer, jazzed about the possibility that I had stumbled on something that wasn't just a novelty but a completely new idea in chess. Crazy, huh?!
The game didn't get much further because he walked out of the room - he had something else scheduled I think.
Yup, I've had several. Some even related to current correspondance games. Guess I went to sleep thinking about them...
i had such dreams too.. when I started playing chess ( sept 2013) that time I was using other app ( chess time ) .. I used to play 20+ games that time.. so every morning I wakes up.. I got like 10 moves to do..my every morning was like one hour on moving chess pieces there. that time I was too much in chess. n those time I had dreams of playing chess ..I don't exactly remember them. but they were nice... I had a lovely period of chess than now . because I was jobless that time n my most of time was in chess :) since I broke up ( April 2014) with the girl who actually was the reason for my chess to b started.. I didn't play chess for like 3-4 months straight.. ( u know that time.. I was the part of achja tourney between our own group n lost 2 games by time ) after I over come the pain..I came back again ..here. stronger than ever been. deeper than before.. but to be honest. I can't go crazy like I was before.. No more dreams of chess r the real sign :)
oh and one dream I remember was with vishy Anand who is my fav player :) it was the time when WCC was going on in Nov 2013 ( right after I started playing chess) which I followed by watching 6-7 hours straight. that time I had a dream of him. don't remember exactly but he was playing with me or something.. that was the best dream of chess so far :)
I don't, but I'd like to give an advice wich is somewhat related to this topic: in correspondence games, never decide a move just before going to bed, better to wait until you've had a good sleep.
I've had several chess dreams. The last I remember was about 9 months ago after a 4 day, 7 round tournament. I was analyzing positions (or a position). In the dream the position seemed very clear as if I was lucid but upon waking it quickly became fuzzy.
Have you had chess dreams before? What were they?
I've had a lot of them. Had one last night where I was at a local business (well, in the dream it was -- the location wasn't one I recognize as being local) and some people were playing chess. Come to find out it was another club in our town that I didn't know about. They called themselves the Silent Knights Chess Club
Wow. Thanks for the great replies, folks! Very interesting how our social contexts and environments influence our dreams.
I often wake up in the middle of the night thinking about one or more of my current games, usually one that I'm having trouble with. Sometimes I wake up with the solution to one of those problems. unfortunately not as often as I would like.LOL

You forgot to pay me $20 in club dues.
Does a dream about a younger Judit Polgar wearing a bathing suit count as a "chess dream"?
Definitely!
Once I dreamed of odd shapes, some overlapping, but each represented a chess piece, and although there was no board, their interactions were the same as chess pieces on a board, and I was looking at actual lines of logic (analyzing a position) although the imagery was nothing like a chess board.
Of course I've also dreamed of positions. Not full 64 squares and all that it entails, but smaller groups of pieces and their interactions.
Usually when I would move a piece to resolve one problem, another piece would appear on a different square to pose a new problem, and I'd have to re-maneuver and reposition endlessly. In the same topic (chess and dreams) chess.com member Etragon said it well once, IIRC: "the ever increasing thicket"
Once I had a dream like this while I had a fever. The bishops kept being repositioned, and then trapped, and needing more maneuvers. As I slowly rose to consciousness I realized I was moving my arms and legs, and I woke up to find myself tangled in the blankets
Haven't had one in a while though. This was back when I was doing tactical puzzles 1-2 hours a day for a few months.
I had several, the last one just barely one week ago. It was a 960 game and I noticed my opponent had just hung his Queen, so I was overflowing with joy. Then I saw that, while I could just take his piece the next move, I also had the option to force-mate him/her in many different ways, so I began calculating and more and more mate sequences popped up, so that I had to decide which one to go for. I couldn't believe my opponent was playing so bad! Shortly before the dream ended and I slipped into unconciousness again, I thought to myself: "I missed that chance! If only I had taken his queen!"
Before waking this morning, I was dreaming of a tactical middlegame position and my dream (however long it was) was basically the process of threat checking and calculating different forcing lines.

I know from when I have learned foreign languages that usually it is a good sign to start dreaming in the language, as it's a sure indication of subconscious absorption. Is this similar with chess? Thanks.
