Chess.Com vs USCF Ratings

Hi All,

How does this work? right now I only play chess in chess.com with chess.com players ... ok cool / fine.

However what rating do they use to play rated games with USCF ... how in world does that work? as we all have  valid USCF rating and we all have a Chess.Com rating to which "both" are different by far ...

So how does this work when people play rated games on chess.com? what rating is used and how does it all work?

Thank you

It depends on how the affiliate/TD running US Chess Online events does it.

If they're using automated events on site, then Chess com ratings are used for pairing purposes.

If they events are paired by hand and players challenge each other, then the pairings could be done by the appropriate US Chess rating or the TD could use chess.com ratings if the player was otherwise unrated or lower rated under US Chess.

In either case, when events are submitted to US Chess their rating rules are used and chess.com ratings have no influence.

Chess.com is more accurate in my opinion. OTB has a much smaller playing field and many players are very under rated or very over rated because they have way fewer games and opponents to choose from.

what's the difference in rating? 400? 500? I just want a simple estimate. thx

USA-Elephant

@oyjunior ... In my view the difference is about 200 - 300 points ... meaning USCF would be example say 1500 chess.com could be about 1750 ... chesskid 1300 vs. USCF 750 ... so the software I feel and its only me ... is a little over rated ... however as some say and is true more play on software so there a veriable to be taken into consdieration there however if you go to big turnaments you will see a 1300 player is very strong ~ just my thinkings ... others can chime in too ~

I played a USCF 1300 and there was no way his rating is that low (on a chess.com rating scale).

GabeMiami10

my uscf is 1180. my guess is he's like me. still provisional

USA-Elephant

@oyjunior and @gabemiami10 ... you guys yes many flex in ratings however to get an idea better is to then look their profile full stats ... how long play? how many games etc ... this will show you very nicely their rating in an overall view ... if they are at 1300 for long time and you see all games around such ... then perhaps 1300 it is ... just play around with full stats it will tell you great detail on a players ablity happy.png

also there's 2 1356s I played one's 1000 uscf and one's 700 uscf
