chess.com vs lichess ratings

Why are my lichess ratings so much higher than chess.com ratings? Lichess rapid rating is over 1700, blitz 1600, and bullet over 1300. Chess.com rapid rating is 1541, blitz 1100, and bullet 900. Since there are so many more players on chess.com is the competition tougher? Would love your thoughts.

Lichess is generally 100-200 points higher than chess.com. Not always, but often.

are they comparatively the same? I just started playing on Lichess today and noticed that.

hello Llama,

what i meant is does it compute to roughly the same skill level? on chess.com I average about 990 in blitz but on Lichess I am provisionally ranked at 1559 in blitz but I have not noticed a difference in the quality of play between my opponents here and there.

I'm only 700 in rapid here on Chess.com, but I'm over 1400 on Lichess.

Yui-Metal

if I remember correctly, in the chess academy discord, there was a script that transformed the chess.com rating into lichess rating

I'm 600 in rapid on chess.com and 1100-1200 in rapid on lichess.

600s on chess.com wipe the board with me, I mean just peak my last game.

(I only play on chess.com if lichess's servers are slow...chess.com players are more sussy than lichess opponents.)

In Rapid

Lichess: I'm constantly beating players rated from 1500 to 1750. My rating stays above > 1500

Chess.com: I have a hard time against 1000-1100 players. I lose to some 900-1000 players. Not even lose, I've been destroyed.

In Blitz

Lichess: I'm constantly beating players rated from 1200 to 1400. My rating stays above > 1200

Chess.com: I have a hard time beating opponents rated 700-800.

Accuracies:

In Lichess, I usually get accuracies at around 80, sometimes up to 95% according to Lichess engine.

In chess.com, my accuracy is around 60 to 75% according to chess.com engine.

Random perceptions:

At chess.com there are phenomenons I almost never encounter in Lichess:
1. Most of the time I lead the game, sometimes by a fair margin. Then I end up losing. Almost like playing a weak player at the beginning, then playing a much stronger as the game goes on. On Lichess I seldom lose when I feel I'm on top, here I'd bet money that my strong start ends up badly.
2. With my main openings as black&white, I thought I have seen all counters on Lichess. At chess.com I encountered totally new and deadly counters to my strategies. Chess.com for me was like entering an adult league after playing with my own age.

I feel very much the same. 1350 lichess and struggle to stay above 800 on chess.com.

I feel like you get away to these great starts and then you lose, not because I have started blundering pieces, but the later moves of my opponent get better.

I can only put this down to either cheating or being endgame masters with poor opening and tactics understanding. I've never heard of someone who trains endgame like a beast, but doesn't work on their openings and tactics first. So that leaves the first one...

I tried on my chess.com account to get my rank up by only taking it serious, reviewing every game and etc, but I got really fustrated with games either going my way or I get destroyed. Very few games ended with me going, I played well and so did my opponent, and then one of us gets a slight edge and claims the win. I feel like I either win with a slight edge the whole game or I get destroyed!!!!

Maybe it isn't cheating, but I find many more of my games go down to the wire on lichess and that makes me feel like the players are more genuine and I enjoy the games more. It is very frustrating to lose to moves that are all of a sudden very positional and just stopping your every move, when they have spent rest of the game moving the queen to ten different places causing one move threats. I do enjoy playing in chess.com but I also find myself swearing at the computer a lot more often too.

This is my impression aswell. Only on Chess.com I have such experience, that opponent who starts worse then me transformrs into an IM. Never so on Lichess. That's kind of strange?

not sure if anyone else feels this way, i mainly play on chess.com, but when i occasionally play on lichess the interface felt so different ( the sound, the pieces animations etc), somehow affected my game play.

Carso83

Yeah it is a bit different and it does affect your play for the first few games, but after that you are alright.

The other thing with Lichess is that it is only one pre-move allowed. it only really bothers you in pawn races in the endgame though.

Same here. I carefully choosen board and pieces skins for both websites (very similar styles), but get tired easier and make more mistakes on lichess.

nagashailesh

im 1150 does that mean im 1450 on lichess

nagashailesh

probably not bc i played so many people who are 1800 on lichess and i won

nagashailesh

will people even read me frustrated

BigChessplayer665

Honestly it depends apparently 1700-1800 on lichess is roughly comparable to around 1600 on chess.com but some people play way better on lichess and worse on here (ex some are 1000 here and 1700 on lichess)
