Chess.com Lag
The last time I experienced lag (when my internet was working fine) was when I played blitz during a live chess server restart. We both disconnected and I won because I was able to reconnect more times than my opponent
Chess.com servers have been getting worse and worse lately, I've seen it too. Seems like they're not even trying to make this site playable. It's a Californian company though, makes sense they'd prioritize profitability over playability (or just simply laziness). They 100% spent more time integrating Ukrainian flag flairs than anything to do with the servers LOL
Except you have absolutely no idea on how much time/effort is being spent on any site features or infrastructure. Staff are constantly working on all facets of the site.
The only work I've seen you do is lock threads and issue banhammers. Seems like you're more interested in LARPing as an internet janitor than maintaining a site imo
Moderators aren't staff and don't maintain the site, just moderate content areas.
The site has over 400 staff spread across a lot of areas and the developers, quality assurance, project managers, and infrastructure staff members work on a lot of different areas. Most don't get involved in the forums much, since they have other things to be doing
Seems like people are in agreement @Martin_Stahl
How about drop this nerdy sarcastic act and get on it. Chop chop.
Get on with what?
This is an old topic... But neverrheless I will cancel my paid account on chess.com. I sinceraly suspect there is a lag compensation for players coming from countries with slow Internet. Even when playing a move directly makes me losing 1 or 2 seconds...

Lag compensation is only applied to the member with the lag and impacts the time they have for their clock. It doesn't impact your personal clock, but your own lag will.
coming there randomly via google "chess com lags", my 2 cents here: i'am playing only atomic, and god how miserable it is CONSTANT lagging / game crushing etc, it's nearly impossible to play 10 games and don't encounter game crush idk how others can play ...
It's gotten worse, here at least. I noticed since Magnus took over the site has gone downhill and is more worried about making sure you're sweet to each other than about performance. I loved it back in the day on yahoo chess when you could talk ish to anyone in any way you liked without fear. It was expected that MEN would talk crap to each other but chess.com is all about $$$ and being politically correct.
Hi, does anyone know why chess.com lags so much? My internet works fine, and it never happens with other sites. People shouldn’t lose games because of how slow chess.com is. Thanks
2024 and it sucks more now
I love losing games - when it shows its not my move, and then instantly I lose 6 seconds. I should start to screen record to show how much it jumps. Unplayable for the past 3 days
The support bot suggests a number of fixes. Every day after a few games i get serious lag. No other site of any kind does this on any of my computers.
Switching to Lichess fixed the problem. Not as flashy, but very usable and in many ways better.
Site admins - when will you fix your site?
I guess it all depends on how far you are located from chess.com:
$ geoiplookup chess.com
GeoIP Country Edition: US, United States
Since the server is located in the US I've noticed that for me (from Sweden) I tend to loose a lot more on time (blitz) at chess.com then comparing to e.g. lichess.org or chess24 . I don't know if the other sites have more servers spread across the globe.
It's always so frustrating to loose while being +10 but not having the time to finish your opponent
