Oh, and for some reason I NEVER get ads in the app while the website version does have background apps but no pop-ups even when I don't have premium membership. I don't know if that's just me but if it does apply to all app users then there is that slight advantage.
Chess.com app vs the website
I got the app recently but see no advantage to it. The website is easier to navigate even on a phone. What an I missing?
I dont know too
I’ve used the app and the website on my ipad and on my phone for about ten years. Although the website functions much better in Safari than it did a few years ago, the app remains vastly superior for playing blitz.
On a phone app rules but if I have to choose one then browser on lp or pc cause it is just tooooo gooood
As far as I know, the website version lets you know when threads you've created/posted on have been updated so that you can easily go back to discussion whereas the app doesn't have this feature. The app also wouldn't let you quote, edit, or even delete posts for some reason. Despite that, I still mostly use the app for convenience since turning on the phone and simply opening the app is much quicker than waiting for the pc to turn on, going to the browser, typing chess.com and then the username and password just to go play a rapid game.
Even if you are using your phone, you can use the website through your phones browser instead of the app if you prefer it.
I started this thread a long time ago, and now with more experience I think the app is better for playing, and the website is better for most other features of chess.com like the forums and reading articles etc. When playing the board is bigger in the app, at least on my phone.
Well, for me the app (free account) is much more better for two things.
1) On the app I can review my weekly lesson many times, whereas on the website just one time. Furthermore, on the app I can revisit old lessons whenever I want, whereas on the website I can't do that if I have already used my weekly lesson.
2) On the app I can set up a custom position of the board, analize, and then study from there. On the website, I can set up and analize a position, but then I can't move the pieces!
I can only play with a connected e-Board in the app.
Some functions are more intuitive and clearer in the app on mobile devices. On the website, there is a risk of accidentally refreshing the page and deleting a position you have entered.
On the website, there are more functions, including for managing your account.
The main advantage for me is that files can be uploaded to the website for analysis. In the app, I can only insert FEN/PGN(s) via the clipboard.
In conclusion, I can say that both, the website and the app, have their advantages and disadvantages on mobile devices, so I use the website or the app depending on the use case.
On Android via the Chrome browser, the website can also be saved as an app. The biggest disadvantage for me is that the Chrome language translation is not available in the web app. Especially in the blog and forum, there are many good posts in English, which I like to have translated into my native language for better understanding. This includes this thread, for example.
I have had these posts translated into English with deepl.
i love the website more than the app cause' the website has the 3d pieces, and the ability to draw arrows.
I want to use this app for me. How can I download and install it? However, I have an app installed already called phone tracker. Do you have any idea about it? Thank you!
