In chess.com, you can play against a bot they’ve named “ChatGPT,” but I’m quite confident it has nothing to do with the actual ChatGPT except in name; it’s just a regular bot they decided to name “ChatGPT” because that’s what’s in the news right now.
I and others are talking about actually asking the real ChatGPT to play a game of chess. There have been different approaches. Most of the time, if you just ask “Hey, I’d like to play a game of chess. I’ll play as white, and I move E4. What’s your move?” ChatGPT refuses to play, saying that it’s a language model and therefore not capable of keeping track of game state.
I took a different approach and just ask it for the best move for one position at a time, describing the position, the moves that have been played, and the current legal moves. This is more successful in the sense that I get it to give me legal moves almost every time, but it still plays very badly!
So weird that chat gpt is as bad as martin but its moves actually do make a little sense

Ngl Chat GPT literally just plays illegal moves. There's a lot of youtube videos about it.
