There was a time when I was frustrated by this too, but that doesn't happen anymore. I suspect that's due to moving up rating. Now when my opponent takes a lot of time, I continue to analyse. If I get to the point that I'm sure of my next move I just make the pre-move. As rank increases beyond the average there's a few things which minimise this behaviour such as fewer early blunders, better time management, positions take longer to analyse fully, players accept their fate more easily, matches are worth thinking about even when they're decided, players are less keen to rush off to the next match and maybe more.

There are other time controls available. So try a shorter starting time and playing with increment. I considered this and decided to continue with 10 | 0 around the same time that I stopped getting frustrated with stalling. I'm not sure how much that can be attributed to the improvement of my opponents and how much to my changing attitude to matches. If I did get frustrated with stalling again that would be my fault, I know about the other time controls, but I don't use them.

Ignore the stallers.

I learned a very long time ago that the majority of people on this planet are stupid.

I had a different kind of stalling experience this a.m. My opponent had one move left to mate me in a 2” bullet but let the clock run for over a minute before making the move at the very last second. Maybe he thought it added a dramatic flair but I found it OBNOXIOUS!🤨

Pegusu

True. Still obnoxious!🤨

People do that when they want you to resign. They think it’s funny to checkmate at the last minute.

One time, somebody made 4 bishops and thought it was funny. Turns out he never learned how to checkmate with bishops and I saved a draw. 😂
Pegusu

Looove it, Jalex13!😁

Join a simultaneous exhibition. Human player, long time controls, no abandoned games. You'll get defeated, but you'll learn.

Half of us have below average intelligence.

There are also a lot of mean people, on a spectrum, needing varying degrees of reasons before they turn mean on you. Also many who want to help you, but their idea of help actually hurts you. You can see the spectrum in elected officials too.

So don't get too upset about the horrible statevof the world. Try to focus more on the positive, change what you can, or spread the word, and do the best you can. The bad will be among us for a while.

Wits-end

I thought about logging in to tell you all how to eliminate stalling, but I’ll wait until tomorrow to do it. You just sit and watch the clock for a while. I’ll be back. Maybe.

Wits-end

Maybe a little later. Just chill and watch the seconds become minutes.

Do NOT care about stallers.sad

Batman2508

there are a lot of things to do when someone stalls

- watch TV

- do some puzzles on another tab

- read a book

and the list goes on and on, and if you are playing 10/0 the stalling cant be for that long, I think the people that play 60 min have a right to complain.

If you knew it was mate in one, why didn't you resign instead of letting the clock run for over a minute??

If I have checkmate in one, I will always stall if opponent doesn't resign. Why should I respect time of the opponent, if they don't respect the chessboard etiquette?

Would you like to be stalled for half an hour when people are overtaking you in leagues? No, I don't think so. Treat others how YOU would like to be treated. Check the Sportsmanship Guidelines.
