aborting game in mid game is a loophole that chess.com will not fix or even acknowledge
If the game aborted after each player has made their first move, it's one of three things.
- It was an arena game and the arena ended. When that happens, the games are aborted
- There was a planned server restart. When that happens, all ongoing games are aborted.
- The site is having issues and sometimes that can cause aborts. This is less common, in general.
Members can't abort otherwise
Just happened to me after opponent accidentally threw his endgame and was in a clearly losing position. Certainly feels like he chose to abort. Shouldn't we be able to verify if there was a planned server reset for all these people that have the same complaint?
It also happend to me today about 40 minutes ago. As I was waiting for a long time on the move of the opponent the game was ended with no points awarded. The game against the higher rated opponent (+100) was going well for me.
Similar thing just happened to me. Was winning a game against an opponent rated over 100 higher than me. The game simply "aborted" with the message " Game Aborted" . There was no time out message or lag . Game Review said " Sudden..you weren't able to convert your winning advantage" The game doesn't appear in my history of games . Ive contacted support. Received a message back saying not to expect a reply soon until they "staff up" due to the large increase in number of users.

There was a scheduled live server restart. When that happens, all ongoing games are aborted.
I think you should get a customer support ticket or find a tech support agent to see if you can regain points lost due to auto-abort.
The scheduled server restarts usually happen in the middle of the night California time. (Because the servers are mostly located in California.)
Your posts all came in 8 or 9 hours ago, which is around midnight or 1am California time.
@Martin_Stahl and @justbefair. I'd like to thank you guys for all of your hard work. You are to be commended. Let's give these guys a big round of applause.
