I am an Indian chess player. I want ot be a NM to play on titled tournaments on chess.com

I scrolled down whole internet but didn't find any info about it. I couldn't find anything on AICF

I couldn't even find that can an Indian be a NM

I am finally left with this way.

CAN I REGISTER ON USCF FROM INDIA TO TAKE THE TITLE OF NM FROM USCF?

Please share your info if you know something about it that will help me a lot.

Thanks.

You can only be a US Chess NM by playing US Chess Regular rated games.

Thanks for replying

and CAN I REGISTER IN USCF EVEN IF I AM INDIAN CITIZEN?

Anyone can join the US Chess Federation. Being able to play over the board regular rated chess requires a US Chess Affiliate, certified TD, and other US Chess members.

You may probably register as USCF member. However, if you want to play OTB games - you should play these games from US.

Like @Martin_Stahl and @sinits said, everyone can join the USCF. However, you should know that in case you wanted to take place in USCF, you should go to US where the games are held. I recommend joining FIDE tournaments instead, it takes place in India and have the CM title.

That's not required.

Anyone can create a US Chess affiliate, become a TD, and run US Chess events anywhere in the world. There's no requirements to be in the US.

But it must be pretty unusual to have USCF rated over the board tournaments outside of the US, right?

Perhaps they might occur at US military bases. I don't think that the US has any bases in India.

I am pretty sure instead of USCF, each country got its own chess federation. In this case, the chess federation in India is All India Chess Federation (AICF) which is not affiliated with the United States Chess Federation (USCF). I might be wrong though.

i think not

aicf doesnt have any rating system (i have not found anything) so how would they have nm

either way cm is equal to nm but one needs to be willing to travel a bit for fide rated tournaments around here

If we would compare the Elo of both titles, then both would seem to be the same. However, FIDE rating is harder to obtain than USCF rating. In other words, CM is harder to obtain than a NM. If you would see the top players list as an example, you would come to find that their USCF rating is ~100 higher than their FIDE.

It might be unusual but I don't believe there are any rules against it, though I could be wrong.

I could imagine some US ex-pats creating an affiliate to run events, in addition to something like a military base.

Martin_Stahl

Looking at the affiliate form, I guess there's not an option to set one up. Might still be possible for a US registered affiliate to run events in other countries.

Indeed, you Can become a national master if you have us rated and +2200 fide rating.

on the other hand, you can ask (at the FIDE) to have the title of master candidate when you exceed 2200, and it is a title that you can have regardless of your nationality

Are you high?

No, you can't earn National Master (NM) by just achieving 2200 in FIDE. That title is for USCF rating. The second part is correct.

National Master in the US has nothing to do with FIDE rating.

CharlesWebster83

There are alot more Countries/Chess Federations that offer the National Master Title than just the US. Each country is different like US,England ,France,Brazil, Philippines, Jamaica,Russia have different requirements. Other Countries don't offer a National Master/ NM title or discontinued it.
