Isnt a game that ends with 0 or 1 move being played (opponent refusing to appear to make a move)technically a shorter game?

For example, Fischer vs Spassky - game 2 or Kramnik vs Topalov, game 5.

Note the "from 1968" part

Yeah, but it isn't like check mate in a few moves.

the shortest game was 1 move, and that was bobby fischer and oscar panno in 1970

why did white resign??

Because he either had to lose his queen or open up his king

He also could have killed the horse with his pawn smh

No because if the pawn took, the queen will checkmate the king.

I think this is a wrong statement... THe two move checkmate is the shortest game in history... i even know some people who resign after thier first move, SO THIS IS FAKE! ;)

the shortest game in history is really when someone never showed up to the board or simply resigned after one move and an example of this was when oscar panno resigned on move 1 against fischer in the Palma de Mallorca Interzonal tournament held in 1970

This is a rough translation from a norwegian Guinness book of Records, from 1968:

The shortest game ever registered between two grand masters, was in four moves. Lazard defeated Gibaud in a chess cafè in Paris in 1924.

 This is wrong. The move is  4... Ne3!! , not 4. ... Nxf2?

The move is 4. …Ne3!!

actual shortest game of chess: White moves. The black side player resigns because he/she forgets to lock his/her house door. Game over.

Camouflage_Aag

my opponent resigned in no moves, goodness know why. it's ONE OF THE SHORTEST GAME IN THE WORLD.

Even shorter: 1 c4 1:0 black resigns Fischer - Panno, Palma de Mallorca interzonal 1970.
Fischer fetched Panno when he did not appear. Panno did come to the board and did resign.

Dubov proved ya'll wrong. Shortest game between two GM's:

I don't know if this counts as the shortest game for a world record. It counts as a forfeit. Forfeits are scored differently than losses. They affect tournament standings, but not rating (at least with USCF)

Me go take knight with pawn. Easy….just deal with the repercussions later…..why would he resign that lmao.
