Remember the chess game on "House"?

Hello All...

For those of you that like to watch the show "House", there was one episode involving chess.  Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie with an amazing American accent) played this arrogant chess prodigy in a very well-done scene.  I found that someone on another site painstakingly reconstructed this game for your enjoyment.  Again, this was not from me, but I thought you would appreciate it.  Enjoy!

it's nice to see producers that can 'produce' a quality chess combination. I seem to remember one episode of diagnosis murder when they were playing Go, the ancient chinese game of strategy. It was not how go should be played at all... it is about abstract play encapsulating enemy pieces, not 'i go there, you go there' close combat stuff. Abysmal.

What's wrong with 16. h7 or 16. b6 threatening 17. Ba6+ skewering the queen? Mate is by no means inevitable here, resigning seems premature

An elderly neighbor of mine loved the show "House" and didn't believe me when I told her Hugh Laurie is English.Β  So I showed her an episode of the BBC comedy "Blackadder" where a younger Laurie played the dim-witted prince and i thought she was going to have a heart attack!

At least the director and writers gave us something realistic.Β  On the original "Saved by the Bell," Screech plays another kid for the scholastic chess championship and they moved their pieces with one hand and hit the clock with the other!

Thanks for posting that I enjoyed that.

This totally looks like Siegbert Tarrasch vs Bernhard Richter: Spain 1883, except for the last move.

In reversed colors, yeah.Β

For an arrogant chess prodigy, this kid really isn't that special

He's good for sure, but not a prodigy. The whole "prodigy" thing is just a word they throw around in shows to make people seem more special. Obviously the criteria have changed since the early 2000s, but this kid should still be at least an IM at his age to even be considered a prodigy
