Oh yes, the mate we all like to see! What luck that they didn't resign. .
Oh... Holy's Mother d'f all MATES 👇
Thanks to @64genius for being so generous to letting me have this sweet experience. Salutes!
I believe... Nigel Short did the same favor 4 Jan Timman. & Yes, Indeed, he did! BLINK BLINK!
This is second time around I have had THIS privilege granted by chess-deities. First time around, some 12 years ago, was a classical 1, as I was eyeballing 4 also here but the knight on h6 & the rook on f8 were major obstacles. So it was not classic this time! Never the less the opportunity rose & the sweet smell of a rose was hanging in the air... I could hear... Houtson... we have a lift off! A small step for our pesky knight but a gigantic "SM" on the board. Ahhaaaaaa... Â
Â
Condolences to vs for an early demise of the black king! So young... yet so smothered!
Another smothered-mate is on the board. This is not a classic 1, well... it is more like a sucker-punch-punk-rock! Â

Nice one! I just got a smothered mate as well :
Â
how are we supposed to solve that puzzle :/
Good 1!Â
U just click on "?" that says "solution" & voila... Â
Holy shmolyÂ
Congrats to @BishopTakesH7, you nailed it; a sweet sweet classical smothered-mate is on the board!Â
Man, you are quickly turning into a smother-mate-tycoon around these fields! Totally Hats off! REEEE-Spect!!!Â
& Look at that poor rook that is being smothered 10 folds in that corner! It is saying to the king: "Body, what are you doing? It is getting awfully cramped up, move aside a bit I can't breath!"Â Â
By the way, isn't that wrong to X the queen by the knight instead of the rook? If I had to choose a move I would definitely not move a minor piece back to first-rank.  "Keep activated your pieces, man!" ;-) I would say! Â
Ignoring a potentially "smother-mate-ing knight" is a very hazardous affair for your king. Your opponent will think twice (or even thrice) next time around. Lesson learned the hard way!  Â

 @Captain_Thorne_of_the_PNW?!
Mate, where is the "smothered mate" in the game you have posted above? I am clearly missing something here...Â
