These moves aren't so hard to find while solving puzzles, but it's not that easy to find them in real games. Once I was close to beat a 2300 in kings and pawns endgame, I had a passed pawn, and I could advance it and use as interference, and then eat his pawns on the other side, but I had too little amount of time, and couldn't find it. It was in a game against opponent MoellerDaehli. It was very close, but unfortunately I'm bad at this kind of endgame, and couldn't find that move, and additionally in the end I made a mistake, that cost me the game. Additionally I was tilted, because of my losestreak

The checkmate in 5 is hard to find if you aren't aware of such patterns. I personally wouldn't call the game "close" because black was the one pushing the entire game(until he blundered), but a wasted opportunity indeed.
Though on a sidenote, beating high rated players don't necessarily mean so much. Everyone can have a bad game once in a while, including me and everyone else.

Once I missed a win against an IM. It was +12( I was white), then I didn't do anything for a few moves, and he stacked 3 major pieces on the h file, and I forgot that I had to defend. (the defense wasn't hard, just some ez move like f3 would have worked.
