Mentioned this on other posts but I don't think the bot is based on who was inside the actual Turk historically, but is a fun way of playing 'guess the bot'. Based on its style, and the clues it drops through comments, my guess is Capablanca

The Turk was constructed in 1770.
Capablanca was born in 1888.

@7 yep that was my point though, it's not based on who was inside the original machine, they've 'hidden' a famous player inside it and the point is to guess who it is. When you play the bot, it says it won the Hastings tournament and also played Alekhine, which the Turk machine never did

BobExplains

My guess was capablanca as well, although I haven't beaten the bot yet so I don't know what it says if you win.

y-Fortnite

so is there a player in The Mechanical Turk?

y-Fortnite

and if so who is it

because tygxc said it was Johann Allgaier, William Lewis, Jacques Mouret, and William Schlumberger. But that is multiple chess players, so do they swich when one gets old???

y-Fortnite

oh never mind I read the artical where it says Johann Allgaier, William Lewis, Jacques Mouret, and William Schlumberger.

ThomasMatt2013

I think it is the inventor for some reason

ThomasMatt2013

But I could be wrong

The bot is really hard. I managed to draw two times

I don't think the player "inside the turk" has anything to do with the history of the real Mechanical Turk. My guess is Capablanca. The bot says something along the lines of "How many moves can I see ahead? Oh, I don't know... fifty!" I'm fairly certain that's a famous line Capablanca said to a reporter one time.

badguyboi12

probably capablanca but the other quotes don't fit

TheLightningKnight

The Mechanical Turk's bot is the strongest bot in chess.com it beated Magnus Carlsen's bot

ekagramehar

I think it is Fischer because he said "How many moves can I see ahead? Oh, I don't know... fifty!"

HellothereBubuce

guys I searched Google, it is capablanca

HellothereBubuce

he said how many moves can I see ahead? 50! Retí then replied to that same question: 1!
