Anyways, the best piece is undoubtedly the Queen, but pawns can be so much more important. They're more active and useful than the queen in the opening and middle game, parts of the game which, as we know, are incredibly important.

Knight because it can safely attack any piece except other knights without needing defence. It is held back by its limited movement but when it gets to the centre it is strong.

also knights don't attract as much attention as a queen
