You forgot GIRI!

Randjesfontein

How did you even find this out?

Morphy doesn't look tall.

Ziggy_Zugzwang

Tall players are physiologically more suited to attacking and shorter ones to defending...

Next you'll see an elephant or a giraffe becoming the next organized chess players

Yes but then the elephant and giraffe grandmasters can go to the circus.

How tall was the tallest GrandMaster?  How short is the Shortest Grandmaster?

Arisktotle

That confirms my worst suspicion. All great players are tall enough to rise above the coffee table and get a superb view on the chessboard and the pieces! They had such a headstart in their lives!

Here's an article on the height of chess players https://www.chess.com/blog/GM_Kenny_Ji/heights-of-famous-chess-players

It's probably worth pointing out that Tal was quite short, whereas Short is quite tall

Walbrodt was 1m20cm. He is standing in this picture, second from the right

Yeah, as I recall he was pretty midged out.

On the other hand, Miroslav Filip was 6'9"!

Are there any pictures with Filip and Reshevsky?

OldPatzerMike

Reshevsky was very short, no more than 5 feet tall and maybe less.

Yeah, Filip and Reshevsky would look like a ventriloquist and his puppet.

Funny thing is that I saw Reshevsky in the early 1980s when he was talking to Cedric Maxwell, the 6" 8" forward for the Boston Celtics. Maxwell was an avid chess player and came to see Sammy's simul in Charlotte. He was looking at Sammy in awe as they talked, even though it looked like he was twice as tall.

btw, Reshevsky played 40 games in the simul and scored +38-0=2. Not bad for a 70 year old man. I would like to state here for the record that I got one of the draws...but I won't because that would be untrue. meh.png

Actually Fabiano is 6 feet 6 during quarantine and getting taller by the day.
