That´s a draw, except for under special conditions.

Off topic, but I doubt you've ever seen it before. That position is impossible since Black's only legal last move was Kb8-a8 and in that situation the pawn can't be at a7 (if it was, Black would have been in check from the pawn after the move before as well, which is illegal). It's not important, but I just found your choice of words coupled with the position somewhat ironic and thought others may find it funny as well.

but its whites move mate in one

its not a draw at least i think -

unless i forgot to mention that a king was involved in that attack

It is a draw UNLESS your opponent is stupid enough to back himself into the corner. One CANNOT FORCE mate with only 2 knights and a king against a lone king.

I believe one of the knights has to be blocking a pawn that hasn't crossed the "Troitzky line", or whatever it's called?  So yeah, pretty much a draw.

but were just talking about mates here not if the openent is stupid enough to notice it :P

Abbey_Road

the mate with K+R vs K is one of the easiest. K+B+N vs K is much harder

Well then, this automatically wins because it's pretty hard to force a mate when it is a draw with perfect play.

(And if we're assuming the opponent is stupid enough to help mate himself, all these mates will be easy because he's likely to step into a mate in one)

Golbat

kbnk and kbbk aren't that difficult once you learn the pattern.

Some endgames involving the Queen are extremely tricky. (Unlike the trivial kqk.)

NEPatriots27

yes but the only reason i posted the 2 knights plus king mate is because of a unsusspecting king and because its a hard checkmate !

And I'm saying that it's impossible to define the difficulty of a mate that's impossible unless your opponent is helping you acheive it.

NEPatriots27

what about 1 knight plus 2 bishop mate -

Blackburnes MAte

NEPatriots27

but honestly i still think the 2 bishops mate is the hardest

j_brodu

I always thought that the King + Bishop + Knight v. King was pretty hard:

   (black to move, not white.)

NEPatriots27

are theyre any harder mates than 2 bishops?
