is it usual for 500 elo players to go against legends, elite, crystal players?(They are 500 elo too)

I just played like 7 games and most of my opponents were in way higher leagues then they are supposed to be in I believe. I'm wondering why I'm facing against them and how they got these high ranks with intermediate player-like elo.

The elo matters, leagues not. I never ever look wat league my opponent’s in.

The thing with leagues is that you can only gain points and not lose them, so if you play 50 games and lose 40 of them, there's still a good chance you'll get promoted (especially from the lower leagues). Therefore they simply reflect who is playing the most, not their rating. I think that Chess.com should have a re-think about the whole leagues concept as currently it's pretty meaningless.

thanks, I just joined chess so I keep losing them since I don't have much experience on positions ty!

Leagues don’t mean anything in terms of elo it just means you play(ed) a lot of chess

Leagues tell you nothing other than the fact that your opponent has played more chess than other people in their league. It doesn't tell you how good or bad they are. I wouldn't pay much thought to them.

If you make it to the legend league, you probably need to touch grass.

What does Leagues even do?
