Yes it is. If your opponent has spent a lot more of their time than you did calculating a bit deeper and finding some better moves, but not leaving themselves enough time to finish you off, that is a strategic choice they have made. Why should you concede the game to them when they have shown they are not able to win by their own efforts?

Tbh flagging is a skill I won against strong player by flagging lol

I think it is ethical to flag in a game where you have a significant disadvantage regardless of the time format. Playing fast is also a skill . Hence I feel that you down need to feel bad if you flagged your opponent.

Obviously, the clock is part of the game. It isn't illegal to dirty flag in any format, with the except of classical. However, there is a question of sportsmanship.

In bullet or blitz, it is totally ethical to dirty flag. If you only take 30 second to play, while your opponent used the full 60 seconds, it means they had twice the amount of time to think about their moves than you did. That is a significant handicap and using that handicap to your advantage is just part of the game.

Now, in rapid 10 minutes or above it gets more shady. Rapid games are intended to be thinking games, so using your clock against your opponent in a losing position is kinda unsportmanlike. Still legal, but not nice.

it is imoral, but you are allowed to do it, the clock is part of the game, your opponent chose to play in that time control, they know the risk of flagging exists.

Also, I'm not even studying the game for now. but I'm just saying, i wouldn't flag someone, but i wouldn't blame the other player if they do that to me. it's not their fault that i couldn't manage my time, so if he's not cheating or smth, the fault will always be mine, and I'm the one who should avoid it. i may be wrong, just an opinion
