Sometimes when I'm reviewing a game, I'll be shocked to see that the advantage was balanced or even ±1 in my favor at a particular point, because in my eyes it looked like my opponent was dominating.
Of course, when it's completely obvious that one side is winning (±4 or greater) I can see that. But when it's a bit less obvious, I tend to assume the wrong thing.
Over time, as you play and analyze more games, your positional intuition will improve. You'll start to recognize patterns of imbalance (like weak squares or an open file) and judge positions more accurately.
